Army: Troops entered northern Gaza on Saturday night and were still in the morning

(Reuters) - The Israeli army said on Saturday that it entered northern Gaza on Saturday night and expanded the scope of military operations with infantry and armored forces in the besieged Palestinian enclave as part of an escalation of its attack on the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

Army spokesman Daniel Hajari said that Israeli forces were still “in the field,” without providing details.

He added that Israel is "expanding humanitarian efforts" today, Saturday, and will allow trucks loaded with food, water and medicine to enter southern Gaza.

The Israeli army targeted Hamas leaders overnight, which Hajari said would allow "troops on the ground to fight against a weaker enemy."
